Kaitlyn Stalnaker
2014 GREG CROFT ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Odenton Volunteer Fire Company

The Officers and Members of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company are proud to submit the name of one of our members for the Greg Croft Rookie of the Year Award.  We are certain that the testimony that follows gives due consideration for the award.

Kaitlyn Stalnaker joined the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company on July 10, 2012. In less than two years, Kaitlyn has become one of our company’s most active responders.  Since joining the company, Kaitlyn has completed all training requirements for certification as Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technician. She has also completed training courses in Rescue Technician – Site Operations, Hazardous Materials, Aerial Apparatus Operator/Truck Company Operations, and Emergency Vehicle Driver/ Operator.

In her short time with the company, Kaitlyn has become a role model for other members of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company.  She never fails to pitch in when a work assignment is required and is one of the first to volunteer for special assignments. On her regular duty night, she is one of the first to volunteer to assist with crew training activities and other assignments She rarely misses a company meeting or fundraising event, recognizing that these are important parts of being a member of the fire company.

Kaitlyn’s regular duty night is Friday night, which she rarely misses. However, she often can be found around the station assisting with staffing of equipment when other duty nights are short staffed. In 2013, Kaitlyn responded to 161 emergency responses as a member of our company. This is in addition to the time committed to completely the certified training programs listed previously.

Life for Kaitlyn Stalnaker is not without other commitments.  She is a student at University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she is completing a course of study in emergency medicine.  She also works part time for the Baltimore Washington Medical Center as a Patient Care Technician III.  Balancing her personal life and her fire service life comes easy for Kaitlyn and she manages her time and activity with the same level of vigor each day.

Although Kaitlyn is employed in the emergency medical field and is completing her academic studies in the degree field, her first love is for the fire service. Given the choice during her duty night, Kaitlyn would prefer to be riding the seat of the fire engine or ladder truck, always ready for action and willing to pull her workload at the scene of an emergency. As an EMT, she accepts her share of responsibility for staffing the ambulance, and even when on the engine or truck, she will often take the lead for patient care when responding to the scene of a medical emergency.

The Odenton Volunteer Fire Company is proud to have members who have the dedication and drive that Kaitlyn Stalnaker exhibits.  She is a role model and mentor for many of the other younger members.  Despite her short tenure of membership, she demonstrates many of the leadership skills that are required to continue the success of our department in the future.  It is with great pride and honor that the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company submits the name of Kaitlyn Stalnaker for consideration for the Greg Croft Rookie of the Year Award.

Respectfully submitted,
Robert L. Rose, President
Odenton Volunteer Fire Company
