Norman Pennington passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He and his beloved wife of 58 years, Martha Pennington, were longtime residents of Edgewater, MD. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, to John E. and Vera J. Pennington, Norman was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Annapolis High School, Class of 1963, and proudly served in the Maryland Army National Guard. He earned his US Coast Guard Captain's License and was a dedicated member of the of the West Annapolis Volunteer Fire Department, Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Three Rivers Sportsmen's Club, Elks Lodge 622, Annapolis Moose, Ducks Unlimited, and the NRA. A passionate hunter and fisherman, Norman cherished countless adventures in the woods and on the water. He was a devoted patriarch, who fiercely protected and cared for his family, and served his country with pride. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Norman is survived by his loving wife Martha, daughter Nicole Brown (David), sister Betty Nicholls (Bill) granddaughters Emily Aliff, Monica Barrett (Ryan), grandsons Austin Kauffmann (Mollie), Hunter Joeckel, Caleb Brown, and great-grandchildren Cole Copertino, Charles Kauffmann, Warren Kauffmann, and Natalie Kauffmann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vera Pennington, his daughter Dawn Pennington Pittman (Harold), and his sisters Marie Cary (Harold), Ernestine Hindman (Stanley), Violet Early (Paul), Marion Schlachter (Karl), Thelma Laird (Clifford), and brothers Calvin and Wesley (Bobbie).
A church service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, Maryland, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10:30am. A private burial will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery.
