In a recent announcement, Montgomery County Fire Department released this message.

“We regret to pass on that Montgomery County Fire Chief Corey A. Smedley has announced the Line of Duty Death of Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

Master Firefighter Higgins was part of a "box alarm" response into nearby Prince George's County for the working house fire. While operating, he was reported to have suddenly gone down and was immediately treated by his crew and others at the scene. Despite all efforts by Montgomery County & Prince George's County Fire-EMS personnel and the hospital staff, his life was unable to be saved.

Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in Peace.”
