Charles W. Cadle, Jr.

Charles Walter Cadle, Jr., passed away unexpectedly at home on April 21, 2023, at the age of 84.

A lifelong Annapolitan, he was born in Annapolis on May 21, 1938, to Charles Walter Cadle, Sr., and Eleanore Merriken Cadle and has resided in the house his grandfather built his entire life. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1957 and attended the Columbia Institute of Technology earning a degree in architectural drafting.

After serving in the United States Army he began a career with the State of Maryland Department of Forest and Parks which later became the Department of Natural Resources, as an architectural engineer, retiring after 35 years of service.

At the age of 16, he became active in the Annapolis Fire Department joining Rescue Hose Company, No. 1 and today holds the position of President and Captain. In his honor, the Annapolis Fire Department dedicated their new Rescue Truck to him for his more than 65 years of service to the City of Annapolis. He had 68 years of service to the Annapolis Fire Service, including a term as the City's Deputy Fire Chief. He has also been the photographer for the Fire Department for over 20 years covering most major fires and accidents within the City of Annapolis.

He has spent many hours volunteering at London Town in the maintenance and reconstruction of their various projects. All in using 16th-century tools.

Charles is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Eleanore Cadle Ridout, his brother-in-law, James A. Ridout, Jr., and his brother-in-law, James E. Goddard. He is survived by his sister, Emily Cadle Goddard, of Annapolis, his niece, Susan Ridout Moore (Craig) of Chestertown, and his nephew, Patrick S. Ridout, of Oreland, PA., his great nieces, Rebekah Moore Mariner (Matt) of Chestertown, and Meghan Moore Middleton (Will) of Church Hill, 3 great-great-nieces and 1 great-great nephew and many friends.

The family will receive visitors at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory,2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8. As per his request, the burial at Cedar Bluff Cemetery on Friday will be private. Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 regrets to announce the death of Capt. Charles W. "Charlie" Cadle on April 21, 2023
