LOGAN BARBER HARRY L. COOPER VFW POST 160 EMT OF THE YEAR AWARD - 2024
On April 8, 2025, Firefighter II Logan Barber received the Harry L. Cooper VFW Post 160, EMT of the Year award for 2024.
Logan graduated from the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at the Citadel Military College of South Carolina in May 2017, with a degree in mechanical engineering and a commission as an ensign in the U.S. Navy. He separated from the Navy in September 2023 at the rank of second lieutenant, last severing on the USS Lake Champlain (CG 57). Logan obtained a master's degree in business (emphasis on leadership) in December 2023. In June 2024, he began as a legislative fellow for the HillVets Fellowship Program working on veteran's, defense, and healthcare issues.
Logan joined the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company in January 2023 while still in the Navy. He readily adapted to our fire company due to the paramilitary structure of the fire service. He almost immediately started the Emergency Medical Technician program, obtained national certification in June 2023, and began riding on our ambulance soon after. He responded to 71 ambulance calls in 2023. In 2024 Logan started the training process to also qualify as a firefighter, taking Hazardous Materials Operations, Firefighter I and Firefighter II. Wanting to even further increase his value to our company, he took the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course in June 2024 and was cleared as an ambulance driver in September 2024. Through September 30, 2024, Firefighter II Barber has worked 77 shifts totaling 848 hours and responded on 36 fire calls and 188 ambulance calls (our top ambulance responder).
Simply put, Firefighter II Logan Barber is a very valuable member of our fire company. |
