Javier Packer Named Member of the Quarter for the 4th Quarter of 2024

The officers and members of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company (OVFC) are very proud to nominate Probationary Firefighter Javier Packer for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Outstanding Member of the Fourth Quarter of 2024.

Javier Packer was voted into our fire company in October 2023 and promptly joined the “Alpha Crew” that mentors new operational members. He was very anxious to learn and be a part of our organization. He enrolled in the first available Firefighter I class in 2024, which he successfully completed in April 2024. He also completed Hazardous Materials Operations and other required courses such as Incident Command System. He worked aggressively to get cleared to ride on our fire engines and began responding as a Probationary Firefighter in July 2024. Javier is very motivated and has already signed up to take the next available Emergency Medical Technician course in January, which will require him to drive to Bethesda two days each week.

Probationary Firefighter Packer is assigned to the Sunday night duty crew but comes in at other times during the week to supplement staffing. Since being cleared to respond just five months ago, Javier has been on 141 fire calls (through November 30), which makes him our #7 fire responder for the year. He has worked a total of 68 shifts totaling 720 hours though November 30, which is a testimony to his commitment to learn and serve. At a recent company training drill, he clearly outworked most of his peers on basic firefighting skills. Also, Javier brought his parents to our Open House in October and introduced them to many of our company leaders. Javier’s parents said he has been excited and enthusiastic about joining OVFC and he may consider the fire service as a career.

Our fire company is very fortunate to have enthusiastic new members like Probationary Firefighter Javier Packer to maintain the vitality of our organization, and we wholeheartedly recommend him to receive the AACVFA Outstanding Member for the Fourth Quarter Award for 2024.
