To Whom It May Concern,
The President, Board of Directors and the Officers of the West Annapolis Volunteer Fire Department would like to nominate Firefighter/EMT Graham England for the Outstanding Member of the Quarter award.
He is a valued member and since his start with us a little more than 2 years ago, he has been dedicated to his training and commitment to being an active riding member. Anytime we have a new member join our organization, Graham is there to greet them and offer support and encouragement.
We wanted to share with you an account of recent actions that FF/EMT England took on a 911 emergency call that resulted in saving a life.
On the evening of 2 April 2024, FF/EMT England was serving as a medical provider on our ambulance unit number A409 and responded to a 911 call involving a person who "might be unconscious" at a restaurant near the Annapolis mall. The dispatch incorrectly indicated the person was breathing adequately. Upon alTival at the scene, A409's crew was first on the scene and FF/EMT England was first to make contact with the patient. FF/EMT England quickly, calmly, and accurately assessed that, in fact, the patient was not breathing. was unconscious and had pinpoint pupils.
FF/EMT England's training, knowledge, and experience enabled him to quickly and calmly recognize the signs and symptoms of a drug overdose. FF/EMT England took decisive and immediate action to administer the proper medication and begin providing rescue breaths for the patient. The ambulance crew continued to breathe for the patient while waiting for backup from another emergency unit. As a result of his actions, the patient soon regained consciousness and began breathing on their ovm. FF/EMT England's confident, calm, and decisive actions directly contributed to the positive outcome for this patient, who likely would not have survived without his intervention.
The President, Board, and Officers of West Annapolis Fire and Improvement Company are extremely proud of FF/EMT EnglandQ s actions and proficiencies and recognize his unique ability to both calmly and quickly accurately assess the situation as a member of the team. In an emergency, each provider, although a member of a team, has independent roles and FF/EMT England operated at a level well above that of his peers and duration of involvement with the Fire Department. FF/EMT England clearly sets a very high standard and reflects great credit upon the AACo FD and WAVFD.
espectfully,
Douglas Beall
President - WAVED-40
