Nicholas Alridge
2016 GREG CROFT ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department
The Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Inc. takes pleasure in nominating Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician Nicholas Aldridge for the Greg Croft Rookie of the Year Award for the year 2016. Volunteer EMT Aldridge joined the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department on April 7, 2015.
Volunteer EMT Aldridge is currently serving in his ninth year on Active Duty with the United States Air Force as an All Source Analyst assigned to the 41st Intelligence Squadron at Fort Meade MD. He currently holds the rank of Staff Sergeant. In addition to his regular duties Nick teaches the Air Force “Self Aid and Buddy Care” course required for all Air Force members. This course teaches Basic Life Support care for non-medical field service members. He also serves as the Squadron’s Anti-Terrorism Officer Representative. The unit representative is charged with advising the Unit Commander on issues related to anti-terrorism, coordinating implementation and managing the anti-terrorism program
Since joining MCVFD, Nick quickly became a very active member of the company participating in training, fundraisers and community events. In the summer of 2015 Nick excelled during an accelerated five-week EMT class. The accelerate pace made it challenging not only in the classroom work but also the need to acquire the required ten ride alongs in that short period of time. At the conclusion of the course, his classmates selected him as the spokesman for the class during the graduation ceremony. Nick also completed the MFRI Protective Envelope and Foam (PEAF) and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Operations courses required to be added to the active riding database.
Nick is also a mentor for the MCVFD Cadet Program. He serves as the primary Field Training Officer for EMS teaching First aid and EMS skills for the 10 to 15 year-old age group. Nick plays a vital role in the motivation and development of our young members who are the future of the Fire Service.
Nick is currently pursuing his goal of becoming a MFRI EMT Instructor. He attended the MFRI Instructor I course and he plans on continuing on to Instructor II and fulfilling all other requirements to achieve this goal.
