Fireman dies after daily training
By Peter Khoury Staff Writer

A 10-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department died yesterday after he suffered a seizure at the end of a routine morning training, county fire officials said.
James Weeks, 39, of Berlin, who worked with company 23 in Severna Park, was pronounced dead at Anne Arundel General Hospital and Medical Center at 9:49 a.m. yesterday. The Cause of Death was still unknown last night.
Weeks and others at the company had just finished a daily physical training workout at Anne Arundel Community College and were preparing to return to the station when he had a seizure, which led to a full arrest, said Captain Frank A. Stokes, a department official. “We don’t know why.”
Other firefighters began performing CPR on Weeks shortly after 9:48 a.m. and paramedics were summoned to the scene but could not revive him, said Lt. David Hoy of the county fire department.
Weeks was taken to the hospital but he could not be revived. LT Hoy said.
The daily physical training Weeks had just completed is that in which those for the company – which deals with incidents involving hazardous materials – take part, fire officials said.
The company station is at Joes Station Road and Ritchie Highway.
LT Hoy said Weeks death came in the “Line-of-Duty.” “This a rare incident at least for Anne Arundel County.”
