DATE OF DEATH: January 23, 1956

CIRCUMSTANCES OF DEATH: While on duty at the firehouse, Firefighter Evick suffered a fatal heart attack.  He was found in the station by Baltimore Gas and Electric Company employees. At the time of his death, Firefighter Evick was the hired driver of the Herald Harbor Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long-time member and past Chief of the Department

Ralph A. Evick

       Ralph A Evick, chauffeur for the Herald Harbor Volunteer Fire Department collapsed suddenly yesterday and died of a heart attack in the fire hall. The 50 year-old man was a resident of Button Wood Trail with his home located a half block from the fire hall.
   Mr. Evick was discovered on a sofa in the fire house by two employees of the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. Taken to Anne Arundel General Hospital by a city ambulance, he was pronounced dead on arrival there.
    Mr. Evick had been associated with the Fire Company since 1941, becoming its chauffeur in 1946. He was a former chief of the company and a past treasurer of the Herald Harbor Improvement Association. He also was a member of the board of directors of the South Shore Improvement Association.
    Born March 31, 1905, at Coalton, WV. Mr. Evick was the son of the late Ludwell Lee and Nora E. Evick. Surviving are his widow Mrs. Adaline E. Evick, four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Lee May, of Sherwood Forest; Mrs. Donald Schreier and Mrs. William Schwartz, both of Herald Harbor; and Mrs. George Chalfant, of Annapolis; a son, Donald Ralph Evick of Herald Harbor; three brothers, Raymond Evick, of Norfolk, VA, and Charles and Clarence Evick of Elkins, WV: a sister, Mrs. Thelma Gox of Elkins, WV; and five grandchildren.
    Funeral rites will be held 9:30 A.M. Thursday at the Hopping Funeral Home 172 West Street. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery at Glen Burnie.
    Services by the Herald Harbor Fire Department will be held at 8:30 P.M. tomorrow a the funeral home.

    The Herald Harbor Fire Department will hold a service at 8:30 o’clock tonight in the Hopping Funeral Home for Ralph A. Evick, chauffer for the fire company, who died Monday from a heart attack while on duty in the fire hall.
    Funeral rites will be held at 9:30 A.M. tomorrow from the chapel of the Hopping Funeral Home, 172 West Street. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Cemetery, Glen Burnie.
